Checking Accounts

To meet the needs of all our members, American Southwest Credit Union offers two types of checking accounts. Choose the one that is perfect for you!

Classic Checking
This checking account offers you convenience with no minimum balance and no monthly fee, and you may receive:

Low cost duplicate checks for easy balancing!
VISA Debit card or ATM only card

Choice Checking (Business)
The Credit Union offers business checking accounts for small local businesses. There is no monthly service charge as long as the balance does not go below $1,000.00. Some restrictions do apply. If you have questions about this service, please call (520) 459-1860 or (800) 752-6394.

Prestige Checking
For astute money managers, try Prestige Checking! With a minimum daily balance of $2000, there's no monthly fee*. And wait, there's more! Prestige Checking entitles you to:

FREE standard Credit Union checks
No fees on American Express Traveler's Cheques (Single signature)
VISA Debit card or ATM only card

*Note: If your balance falls below $2000 on any one day during the month, a $10 monthly fee will be applied to your account. Each day the balance falls below $2000, the account will not earn a dividend.

Overdraft Protection
Never worry about "bouncing" a check again! Overdraft protection is available from your share account or to qualified members by establishing a line of credit loan. Give yourself peace of mind and apply for overdraft protection today.

Direct Deposit
Time-saving direct deposit is available to all American Southwest Credit Union members. Sign up today and you can have your paycheck, Social Security or other pension checks directly deposited into your account. In fact, your direct deposit can be further distributed to make loan payments or deposits into other savings accounts at American Southwest Credit Union. No more making a special trip to deposit your check or make your loan payment.

Member Privilege
Member Privilege is a special overdraft service for your Classic Checking or Prestige Checking account. Your overdraft limit depends on the type of checking account you have. Normally a Classic Checking has an overdraft limit of $400.00 and a Prestige Checking has a limit of $700.00.

Member Privilege is a non-contractual courtesy and requires no action on your part. You do not have to sign anything and there are no fees other than our standard NSF fee of $25 for each item overdrawn. We will notify you if an overdraft occurs. You should not consider or use Member Privilege as a line of credit or as a regular source of funds. It is an account service for which you are charged our standard NSF fee of $25.

Member Privilege is automatically available after your checking account is open for 30 days as long as you maintain your checking account in good standing (defined as making regular deposits and bringing your account to a positive balance, including payment of all Credit Union fees charged to your account, at least once every 30 days).

Your Member Privilege limit may be available to you by writing a check or making a debit card or ATM transaction. This limit will not be reflected in your balance provided by a teller, at the ATM or through Anytime Online Home Banking or ACTion Line.
